"In the interest of the Nation, leaders put aside their personal interests to support a course that can help the nation move forward. I had a fruitful engagement with my brothers & sisters from Ukambani to talk about Kenya today. They promised to show the same on the 7/11 in Kibra (sic), " the ODM Party tweeted.

The meeting was, however, attended by Kitui governor Charity Ngilu and her Machakos counterpart Dr Alfred Mutua.

Dr Mutua is a strong critic of Kalonzo and has made public his intention to wrest control of the leadership of the Kamba nation from the former VP.

The 2 high profile Kamba nation leaders threw their weight behind the ODM candidate Imran Okoth.

Kalonzo Musyoka has avoided the Imran Okoth campaign and his absence in the meeting could be interpreted as opposition to the candidature of the ODM candidate.

The Wiper leader has not publicly voiced his opposition to Imran.

It is not clear whether Kalonzo's absence from the meeting was because he had not been invited or because he had turned down the offer to attend.

Many will see his absence as political.

Speculation has been rife that he could be supporting either Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo or Ford-Kenya candidate Ramadhan Butichi.

Kibra residents will queue to cast their ballots to determine who take the baton of parliamentary leadership in the constituency.
