Mijikenda elders have condemned steps taken by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission of grilling Kilifi Governor over remarks of land injustices he made during the Madaraka day celebrations in Mombasa.
The leaders drawn from the 9 groups, claimed the move by the national cohesion and integration commission was just meant to intimidate the governor since the governor's intention was just to remind people of historical land injustices.
"We heard that information from media stations that's why we have come here to say that the words governor spoke, he said them to remind us about the history, that's why we have come to say if the governor said uniting words, why are they saying the governor was inciting us? Therefore we request the NCIC to ask the leaders all information regarding the Mijikenda. (Tuemskia haya maneno kutoka kwa vyombo vya habari ndio maana tumekuja hapa kusema kwamba maneno gavana alisema kule ilikuwa ya kutukumbusha kwa upana, kama alisema maneno ya kuleta watu pamoja kwa nini wanasema gavana alituchochea ndio maana tunasema tume ya NCIC wanafaa wanatulize maneno yote yanayohusu wamijikenda)as reported by Ktn news.
On Monday the governor was grilled by NCIC in Nairobi over the remarks where he insisted that he was explaining the issues on record.
The commission has a Swahili version of the alleged speech by Kingi linking the widespread landlessness at the Coast to pre-independence and post-independence failures to resolve the land question.
In the speech Kingi claims that former Coast political leader Ronald Ngala was cheated by founding President Jomo Kenyatta not to wrestle colonial masters in Coast region to get land for the locals, leading to the squatter and eviction menace in counties in the region.
