In a tweet on Tuesday, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) recounted how opposition politicians had teargas canisters lobbed at them as they pushed for electoral reforms.

The tweet was accompanied by photos showing John Mbadi and the Gem MP scampering for safety during a demonstration by the National Super Alliance (NASA)

During the electoral reforms protests, Elishah Odhiambo said that there were leaders who cheered on as law enforcement officers dealt brutally with opposition supporters.

"Myself and Hon. Mbadi when we were assaulted and tear-gassed by disgruntled state police for standing against killing of our supporters. Those who cheered these barbaric acts are today victims of the same. Leaders must reason beyond ethnic connotation and tribal affiliations!" Elishah Odhiambo's tweet read.

The Kiharu legislator was arrested Monday night, just a day after a video of him disrupting a church fundraiser in his constituency.

Ndindi Nyoro faces charges that include causing disorder, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

Screenshots of past social media posts made by the avowedly Ruto-backing legislator show him mocking opposition supporters.

He claims that his arrest is politically motivated and has vowed not to keep pushing for what he believes in.
