Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has emerged the best performing county boss following a report on County Revenue and Accountability Survey.
The second term governor recorded a growth of 100.6 per cent following the research released by Consortium of Researchers on Governance (CoRG).
The report, which was released on Monday, also ranked Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi as the second-best governor in the same category with 94.9 per cent.
The research ranked Tharaka Nithi’s Muthomi Njuki and Makueni’s Kivutha Kibwana as the third and fourth positions respectively. The team’s data analyst Charles Mc’Olonde said that they took an analysis of the different devolution units to come up with the findings of the research.
“We considered own source revenue that counties managed to raise in the last financial year and did a comparison of what they have since managed to raise this year,” said Mc’Olonde, as quoted by Capital FM.
The firm conducted the research between July 5 and September 9, 2019. The officials had to collect data from different officials at the county government to come up with the results indicated. Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu emerged at position 11 despite being under probe over corruption.
The report negatively listed Governors Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Mohamed Abdi (Wajir) and Fahim Twaha of Lamu. Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua was ranked at position 43 despite being ranked as the best performing county boss last week.
Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado), Martin Wambora (Embu) and John Nyagrama (Nyamira) were ranked as the most improved.
