Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday responded to allegations of corruption cases facing him.
The flashy city boss cleared the air after he appeared at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Tuesday over garbage collection tender award.
Sonko was questioned over the 13 firms that were awarded the multi-million garbage collection and disposal tenders.
In his defence, Sonko indicated that he only appeared before the EACC because he is the county boss and only shed light into the tender awarding issue.
The outspoken legislator pointed out that he never penned any signature on the contracts awarded.
He revealed that most of these tenders were being signed by his cabinet without his knowledge.
More so, he noted that he blocked some of the payments which were supposed to be done on illegally awarded tenders.
“I learned of the select committee’s concerns and blacklisted the companies. I also stopped any payments due to them as well," said Sonko.
Residents have now come out in large numbers calling for the arrest of Sonko, under Twitter hashtag #ArrestCorruptSonko, claiming he is corrupt.
Not long ago, the city boss indicated that he will step aside for investigations to be done.
