Corpses for three traders who died after drowning at Masinga dam were removed on Sunday. The bodies' retrieval brought to an end a search which has been ongoing for three days.
Confirming the incident, local administrator for Riakanau Location Kimeu Musyimi reported that the bodies had been moved to Embu Level Five funeral parlour.
"We have managed to recover all the bodies of the victims and I want to thank the rescue team for the work well done," Mr Kimeu told the press.
Among the dead was Alex Njogu aged 23, and whose relatives narrated how they had stayed beside the dam awaiting for their kin's retrieval as Nation learnt from Winnie Kamau.
"We are happy because finally the body of our son has been traced. We shall start making funeral arrangements," said Winnie, the deceased's mother. The three were among twelve traders whose boat capsized on Thursday, and they went missing while the rest nine were saved.
They were reportedly on their voyage from Machakos where they had gone to buy tomatoes, only for the tragedy to happen during their return. According to the area chief, two were from Thika while the third one was from Kirinyaga.
He urged people to exercise keenness whenever crossing the dam and especially during night hours.
