Professor Asenath Sigot has been appointed the acting Vice Chancellor (VC) of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).
Confirming the appointment, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, said the university's council exuded confidence in Sigot, to take charge of the institution as they wait to name a permanent VC.
Sigot is expected to succeed Professor Joseph Bosire after the end of his tenure in office.
Bosire took over the post from the then Vice-Chancellor, Prof Fredrick Otieno following the expiration of his term.
The acting VC has three months to hold the office before the appointment process is undertaken to determine who will succeed the outgoing VC.
Sigot said she is ready to take the learning institution to the next level, and urged members of staff as well as other stakeholders to support her leadership.
“I was in Nairobi for a workshop when I received the news. It was a surprise to me. I am ready for the new role and pray to the Almighty God to guide my footsteps,” Prof Sigot told the Standard.
The institution has been facing a number of issues, which Sigot is expected to address with immediate effect following the appointment.
