The two in their testimonies before court linked Joseph Kairu alias JB in connection to the disappearance and murder of Caroline Jepchirchir Chesire, a Nakuru Women’s Prison warder.

Constable Lukas Gitau, a neighbour to the victim, told the court that his wife saw Kairu wanting to break into Chesire’s house on April 4, two days after she had disappeared.

Gitau said that his wife informed him that Kairu said he was sent by Chesire to break in the house and get some crucial documents.

Gitau then called Kairu and warned him to leave his wife and said he will report the matter to the police if something happens to Chesire.

“The same day Kairu informed my wife that Chesire had sent him to break into her house is the same day one of our colleagues informed us that she had disappeared.”

“Kairu apologised about engaging my wife in any conversation that was illegal,” said Gitau as quoted by standardmedia.co.ke.

Justice Rachel Ng’etich further heard that Gitau found it strange when Kairu on April 3, at 7.30am wanted to borrow his truck to ferry tomatoes from Nyahururu to Nakuru yet they were never friends.

Another warder, Marion Chelimo, in her testimony said Kairu was trembling, tensed, panicky and sweating when he went to her house on April 3 at 10pm and asked to take a bath at her house.

“He told me that he had found his lover sleeping with another man after he came from a business trip in Nyahururu.”

“The accused requested for some water to take a bath. I told him to wait for my boyfriend so he could explain everything to him but he was impatient and insisted on his request. I went to the bedroom and texted my boyfriend who came 20 minutes later,” said Chelimo.

Kairu refused to explain to them what was going on and requested for water and he poured a jug full of water on his face before leaving.

Chesire’s body was on April 10 found dumped in a thicket at Githioro village in Subukia, Nakuru County.

Kairu is being charged alongside Warder Raymond Kiplimo over the murder of Chesire.
