Nandi Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei has castigated Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and some unnamed state operatives for having a hand in revival of his past hate speech case.
In a statement he posted in his official Facebook page on Tuesday evening after being released by Milimani court where he had been arraigned and charged for inciteful remarks, Cherargei blamed his arrest on his consistent criticism of individuals misusing powers given to them by the president.
"Today's events are a continuation of the primitive method of political suppression by those with access to state machinery against those perceived to be anti establishment," read part of the statement.
The vocal Senator pointed out that the case was inconsequential because it had been cancelled 4 months ago yet CS Matiang'i was trying to use it to intimidate him after calling him out for playing politics, a move that was contrary to his role as a Cabinet Secretary.
The legislator denied charges levelled against him and was released on Tuesday evening on a cash bail of Sh300,000.
On Monday, Cherargei had called on Matiang'i to stop mudslinging the name of Deputy President William Ruto for the purpose of gaining political mileage.
He had told off the CS and reminded him that the DP was not his political equal.
According to Cherargei, his sentiments infuriated Matiang'i, making the CS promise some disciplinary action against him when they met at the Intercontinental Hotel on Monday.
In August 2019, Cherargei had threatened a section of politicians who were critical of DP Ruto with unspecified action while speaking at an event in Nandi.
The police had arrested him over the inflammatory remarks but he was later released.
