The Orange Democratic Movement on Thursday fielded a candidate in the anticipated by-election at Batalu ward in Wajir North constituency.
In April, ODM pulled out of the Wajir West by-election after her candidate Mohamed Yusuf quit the race following a meeting with DP William Ruto.
The seat was eventually won by Ahmed Kolosh, who had quit the ODM party for Jubilee. The turn out of events further weakened ODM's strength in the house.
And on Thursday, National Elections Board chair Senator Judy Pareno and Secretary General Edwin Sifuna awarded a certificate to ODM candidate.
"NEB Chair Sen. Judy Pareno and SG @edwinsifuna today presented the nomination certificate to our candidate for Batalu Ward in Wajir North Constituency in Wajir County for the by-election scheduled for the 18th day of December 2019. We wish him all the best in the by-election," the party said.
Raila Odinga is keen to revamp the ODM party ahead of 2022 polls. Grassroots poll has been scheduled for February next year, with ODM keen to recapture North Eastern.
On Thursday (today), the party is expected to put good performance in three ward polls across the country, two in Northern Kenya, a strategic area for ODM.
"We wish our candidates; Reuben Mwamure Katana (Ganda Ward Malindi in Kilifi) Mohamed Sheikh Ali (Abakaile Ward Daadab, in Garissa) and Tobias Chodow Leng’uro (Loiyangalani Ward, Laisamis in Marsabit) all the best in today’s by-elections," a statement from the party read.
In November 7th, the party's strength in Kibra constituency will be tested with ODM confident that Imran Okoth will triumph. He is running against McDonald Mariga, who is being sponsored by DP William Ruto.
For Ganda ward in Malindi, ODM is expected to clinch the seat on Thursday. The polls saw one person lose his life of Tuesday following fatal shooting.
