Kisumu governor Anyang Nyongo has come under fire for the death of the six bouncers from Ahero in Nyando, who were killed by a mob in Butula, Busia.
Speaking during the funeral of the in Boya Primary School, Friday, Kisumu Senator Fred Outa has said that the six were driven into desperation after the governor sacked them from their casual work at the county.
He said that consequently, they were driven into desperation to provide for their families, after being kicked out of positions they were given by Nyong'o's predecessor Jack Ranguma.
"Sisqo (William Omondi, one of the deceased) could not have died this way had he still been working in the Kisumu County government. Nyong’o is shedding crocodile tears,” he said.
Nyong'o called upon residents and leaders not to heap the blame on the entire county of Busia, stating that there is the need for the law to follow its course in dealing with the perpetrators of the murder.
"The killers are known, and we should not blame the entire Busia County for this crime. Let the killers be named and charged accordingly,” he said.
The six are David Okeyo, Elvis Odoyo, Richard Odero, Philip Kwach, Evans Onyango and William Omondi.
Nyando MP Jared Okello called for calm, saying that area leaders are pursuing justice for the families of the young men.
"As leaders of this area, we are closely following this issue and our people must get justice. They have left behind young families and I ask our people to remain calm as we seek the truth," he said.
The six were killed while manning the burial of Busia businessman Johannes Aduol, after reportedly being hired by one of the widows, but were murdered by locals in what is suspected to be a case of mistaken identity.
