The former county boss was on Wednesday questioned by detectives at Parklands over the alleged loss of Sh1 billion during his regime.

The grilling was led by Superintendent David Chebii.

Among the monies said to have been lost was the Sh6 million that was used to purchase a generator for county use, but the machine would later be recovered in his house.

“We wanted him to tell more about the generator after our officers recovered it from the former governor’s house," Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti told the People Daily.

He also confirmed that the ex-county boss was grilled at the DCI headquarters, adding that he might also be charged with abuse of office.

He said that they have documents indicating that Akaranga approved the purchase.

Further, Akaranga will have to explain the loss of Sh900 million in his government.

"On this case, we are in possession of documents that have made us commence probing the former governor over abuse of office and misappropriation of funds. The case is nearing completion as we are only tying up some loose ends," he added.

He stated that the case is being pursued in three parts.
