A middle-aged man was on Sunday night arrested by police for allegedly attacking his neighbour with a machete.
Mr Katiku Kimanthi from Kalika sub-location, Mitaboni ward in Kathiani sub-county, Machakos was is said to have attacked one Wambua Ngomoli popularly known as "Katu" and injured him badly.
According to eyewitnesses, Katiku was battering his wife when Katu who was passing by heard commotion in his neighbours home and as a good neighbour decided to pass by to see what was happening.
"Katu was just passing by when he heard a lot of noise in his neighbour's house. He went to check and try to help," said PK Mutua a youth leader in Mitaboni ward.
"It's during that time when Katiku attacked him and cut him badly with a panga," he added.
Reports indicate that after the attack, Katu, a renowned football referee in the area raised alarm when other neighbours intervened to save him.
"We heard a lot of noise in the compound at night and someone screaming for help. We arrived only to find Katu bleeding badly," said Martin Muli not real names for fear of victimization.
Muli noted that it was not the first time the man was abusing the wife but h has done so severally.
The man was arrested by Kenol police station.
Katu was immediately rushed to Mitaboni dispensary where he was referred to Machakos level 5 hospital where he is admitted.
