The meeting came at a time when the activities of the county are grounded following the standoff in the assembly.

The lawmakers, who were led by Speaker Meshack Maghanga, met Joho at his offices in Mombasa as efforts to find an amicable solution are sought.

“We have been seeking such a platform where we can express our issues openly and today we had a fruitful meeting, led by Governor Joho. We have seen ‘white smoke’ and soon we shall resume our work in the county,” said the Speaker.

Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja had written to President Uhuru Kenyatta seeking to dissolve the county assembly before the intervention of Joho and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The Speaker confirmed the existence of the meeting after weeks of stalemate between them. The MCAs were not ready to approve the budget for the year, which affected the performance of the county in different ways.

Samboja decried the delay in the initiation of different projects in the county government after the MCAs remained adamant on the matter.

He also said that the region has continued to lag behind in terms of development because of the endless wars among the MCAs.

Leader of Majority Jason Tuja later apologised to Taita Taveta residents over the standoff between them and the executive.
