Kisii Governor James Ongwae has warned county revenue officers against theft of public funds.
Speaking at the county offices on Wednesday when he signed the Kisii County Finance Bill 2019/2020 into law, the governor said he will not condone corrupt revenue officers.
"I have put the revenue department on notice to ensure proper strategies are effected and automation is fully adopted so that the Sh550 million target is achieved. No revenue officer should accept money in cash from any resident paying revenue to the county government," noted Ongwae.
Ongwae stated that the Kisii County Finance Bill 2019/2020 is a product of public participation which was enacted by the Kisii County Assembly.
He lauded the MCAs and residents for their input in the Bill.
"I thank members of the public for the input and the Assembly for passing the Bill. As a way of supporting our local community, my government has not increased rates for matatu and bodaboda operators. We have also reduced the transport permit fee from Sh20,000 to Sh5,000 per fleet for the benefit of our local transporters," he stated.
The county boss maintained that he is committed to ensuring public funds are spent wisely for the benefit of the people of Kisii County.
