Outgoing Auditor-General Edward Ouko has broken his silence after rumours that he is eyeing National Treasury Cabinet Secretary.
Ouko, whose term ended on Monday, has dismissed reports that he has been approached by the Treasury to take over the post following the firing of Henry Rotich.
"I have not been approached by anybody for anything," Ouko said on Tuesday.
He added: "There's still so much to do and I think it's our collective responsibility whether you're in government or not for the fight corruption and impunity to continue."
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is completing his second and final term in office, replaced Rotich with Labour’s Ukur Yattani on an acting capacity.
Rotich was charged with the Sh63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal before he was suspended from his position.
He denied the claims levelled against him after it emerged that the funds could not be accounted for despite the government disbursing the same. Ouko also said that he faced endless challenges during his tenure at the office before retirement.
"Most of the staff were unreceptive to technology. However, I worked hard to change the situation," he said.
President Kenyatta has since declared the position of the Auditor-General vacant after the retirement of Ouko and invited applicants to present their letters for consideration.
