Court of Appeal judges have mourned their departed colleague Otieno Odek as a brilliant and humorous man.
The judges, led by Court of Appeal President William Ouko on Thursday converged at the Kisumu Law Courts for the requirem mass of Odek.
Justice Ouko termed the demise of Odek a great loss to the country, and the court fraternity, adding that Kenyans have lost an important figure in the administration of justice.
"The nation has lost immensely and the Court of Appeal and the Judiciary are poorer without him,” he said.
They added that the gap he has left behind will be too hard to fill, while others termed him the most industrious, generous and efficient judge the court ever had.
“He was a philanthropist. He once accompanied me to Meru where we inspired many young children and fund raised for the vulnerable,” said Patrick Kiage, another judge.
The 56-year-old, who was between 2016 and 2018 the Director of the Judiciary Training Institute, was found dead in his apartment in Kisumu, on December 16.
A postmortem test conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor established that he died as a result of a blood clot in his right leg, resulting in blockage of his arteries.
He will be buried in Asembo, Siaya county today (Friday).
