For the last nine months, Deputy President William Ruto has oitched tent in Gusii, a region projected to have at least 1.5 million votes by 2022.

Dr Ruto is riding mainly on New comers, with North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi coordinating the team.

For the last decade, Mr Odinga has enjoyed almost fanatical support from among Abagusii, a pattern he's keen to maintain ahead of 2022.

Already, the former PM depends much on Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri to coordinate and stamp authority in the region of his behalf.

"New teams are formed based on prevailing circumstances. You can now see Prof Sam Ongeri in the radar. He's important in the team," John Mbadi said recently.

ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire is pulling strings in the region and he's among most loyal confidants of Mr Odinga. He is the senior most party member from the region.

On Friday, Bosire organised Kibra meeting for Abagusii which saw Mr Odinga attend to drum up support for Imran Okoth of ODM.

"We must get in touch with our community across the country. We must show them the right direction and this is exactly what I am doing," he said.

Governor James Ongwae, a former civil servant, is one of most trusted advisor of Mr Odinga. Ongwae is serving his second term. John Nyagarama of Nyamira is also closely working with Odinga.

Others in the team include Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi and CS Fred Matiang'i.

Simba Arati of Dagoretti North and Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era are also critical in Mr Odinga's dream team.
