Veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga came with good tidings to the memorial service of the pupils killed in the Precious Talents Top School tragedy held at the Ngong Race Course.
In his speech on Friday, the ODM supremo said that he had been sent by President Uhuru Kenyatta with 2 million shillings.
The two million shillings will be divided equally between constructing the school and helping the parents of the pupils affected by the tragedy.
On his part, Mr Odinga donated one million shillings which he said will go into construction of the school
"President Kenyatta has donated 2 million shillings, one million will go to the affected parents and the other million will go towards helping construction efforts. I have personally donated 1 million to go towards construction of the school (Rais Uhuru Kenyatta ametoa shillingi millioni mbili- milioni moja kama pole kwa wazazi walioathirika na mkasa shuleni Precious Talents na millioni nyingine moja kwa ujenzi wa shule hiyo. Na mimi pia nimetoa shillingi million kwa sababu ya ujenzi), " Raila said.
At least 8 pupils perished when a building at the Nairobi school caved in, injuring scores more.
Media reports which have not been confirmed by investigative bodies indicate that the collapse occured because the building lacked in structural integrity.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is conducting a probe to establish the circumstances of the deadly collpase.
