Political analyst Prof Herman Manyora has cast aspersions on a group of politicians allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
Referring to the politicians as the handshake team, Manyora on Saturday in his weekly YouTube show said they could be the force behind Deputy President William Ruto alleged assassination.
This comes at a time when detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have doubted the legality of a letter dated May 30, allegedly written by a Cabinet Secretary with the claims and addressed to Uhuru.
Manyora now says that the letter could have indeed been faked, possibly by the handshake team, as part of the ongoing plan to scuttle Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
He observed that the plan could be to provoke the DP into overreacting, after which it will be easier for them to first kick him out of the Jubilee Party and later out of government.
"It's very possible and for many reasons. The handshake team could have faked this letter so as to provoke Ruto into overreacting. So that the Ruto team can overreact and give the handshake team the excuse to Jetson him out of government and out of Jubilee," he said in the Take It or Leave It YouTube analysis channel.
The blame has since landed on four Cabinet Secretaries; Peter Munya (Trade), James Macharia (Transport), Sicily Kariuki (Health) and Joe Mucheru (ICT) and other top state officials drawn from Mt Kenya region.
Though the group has admitted holding meetings at La Mada Hotel, they have rubbished claims that they have been plotting to eliminate the DP saying their agenda is purely development-oriented.
