President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto are expected to attend separate functions in Murang'a county on Sunday.
President Uhuru will be attending a Church event at ACK in Kenol, Maragua constituency whereas DP Ruto will be worshipping in the neighbouring Kandara constituency.
Senator Kang'ata divulged that he personally talked with Uhuru where he confirmed that he (President Uhuru) will be visiting the county on Sunday.
“We talked with the President on phone and he has reassured me that he will be in Murang’a. I invited the President earlier this year while we were in State House with Bishop Karanu. We had gone there to receive a school bus for Mukangu Secondary School,” he said as quoted by Nation.
Governor Mwangi wa Iria also confirmed that communication has been made by the State House.
“I have received the official communication from State House that the Head of State will be in Murang’a on Sunday although briefly in order to attend to other matters,” he said.
On the other hand, digital strategist and a close ally to DP Ruto, Dennis Itumbi made it clear that the second in command will also be in the region for various events.
“The Deputy President will be in Gichugu for a fundraiser and in the afternoon he will be visiting Kandara for another event,” Mr Itumbi said.
On why the two were invited to the county on the same day, Maragua MP Mary Waithira who is a DP Ruto supporter said; “The President and the Deputy President were invited separately and without knowledge aforethought.”
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena and Mr David Mugonyi, the director of communications in the DP’s office have, however, not confirmed if the Jubilee leaders will be attending the functions on Sunday.
