Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Eliud Owalo has received a major boost in his bid to become next Member of Parliament for Kibra Constituency.
This is after a section of elders from the Luo community on Saturday pledged to rally behind him in the upcoming November 7 by-election.
In a post on Twitter, Owalo, who served as campaign manager for ODM party leader Raila Odinga in the 2013 presidential polls, said the elders pledged support since he has been helping them to improve their welfare.
"I was delighted to host consultative meeting with about 500 Kibra Elders drawn from the Luo Community. I have a long history with these elders whom I provide social support via the Kibra Elders’ Self Help Group," he tweeted.
"I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the elders of Kibra who unequivocally endorsed my candidature for the Kibra Parliamentary by-election," Owalo added.
The ANC candidate is expected to face stiff competition from Imran Okoth of ODM, McDonald Mariga of Jubilee and Ford-Kenya's Khamisi Butichi.
Former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi, the ANC boss, has exuded confidence that his candidate will emerge victorious.
"Owalo is a strong candidate, he was born and raised in Kibra. As a party, we are confident that we will win. We will surely teach our competitors a lesson," Mudavadi said.
