According to the Cable News Network (CNN) the two leaders discussed how to end the ongoing war between the Afghan government and the Taliban militant group in Afghanistan.

The US has been in Afghanistan on the side of the government, while Pakistan has been lending a hand to the militants in the war that has now clocked 19 years.

Trump said that his forces have only been trying to maintain law and order in the nation, as it would have wiped out the militants in 10 days were they to engage in a real war.

"We've been there for 19 years and we've acted as policemen, not soldiers. Again, if we wanted to be soldiers we could end it in one week, 10 days," said the Potus.

On his side, Khan stressed the need for the two nations to spearhead a possible ceasefire between the Afghan leadership and the Taliban, as a lasting solution for peace.

"We hope that in the coming days we will be able to urge the Taliban to speak with the Afghan government," he said.

According to officials, the discussions also revolved around Pakistan's growing debt to China, where America seeks to ensure that the Pakistani are not over-indebted to Chinese.
