A 25-year-old John Mwangi, is said to be on the run after his father reported him to the police for growing bhang inside his house.
According to the suspect's father, the young man had planted bhang, in his compound something he did not like and opted to report him.
“I was wondering who was stealing manure in my compound, only to discover it was my son Mwangi who I reported to the authorities,” said Richard Muriuki, the father as quoted by Citizen Digital.
However, he was not living in the house but had rented a house at Kimbimbi trading centre.
The police arrived at Mwangi's house at Redsoil village in Mwea Sub-County on Thursday but did not find him.
They were shocked to see the whole house filled with bhang plants.
Nyangati location Chief Emmacuate Wanjiru Njoka told Citizen Digital on Friday that Mwangi took off after discovering that the police were looking for him.
“The suspect is at large but police are searching for him,” the Chief said as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The police had to uproot all the bhang inside Mwangi's house.
The plants were uprooted and taken to Wang’uru police station as evidence, awaiting the arrest of the suspect.
Bhang still remains illegal in the country despite calls from various politicians to have it legalized.
