Baringo Senator Gideon Moi will be in the 2022 presidential race, his close ally and Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has disclosed.
Kamket says that the Kenya African National Union (KANU) boss has been secretly working towards realizing his 2022 intentions, and has been silently reaching out to others for backing.
The MP on Wednesday revealed that Moi has been in silent contact with other Rift Valley parties in a bid to amass support at home before making a national declaration.
He said that KANU is silent on its plans in honor of President Uhuru Kenyatta's calls against early politics, also considering that the nation is still fresh from the 2017 elections.
"We are ready. We have only said that we’ve just come from elections and we have the Big Four agenda that President Kenyatta holds dear. It takes a lot of respect for Kenyans. Everything depends on time," he is quoted by the Standard.
He made the remarks on KTN's Point Blank show on Wednesday night, where he also mocked Deputy President and Moi's rival William Ruto who is also eyeing the seat.
The lawmaker noted that unlike the DP who embarked on campaigns immediately after the 2017 polls and seems to have run out of fuel, the party is taking a more intelligent approach.
“Where has Ruto reached in his marathon running left and right? Too much effort and no work done. Who is crying wolf now?” he added.
Kamket said that its just a matter of time before Gideon makes the major declaration, adding that he is in talks with former Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto's Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party.
