A Kisii-based politician allied to the ruling Jubilee Party has broken his silence after the party nominated footballer McDonald Mariga to vie for the upcoming Kibra MP by-election.
Isaac Motari who is eyeing Bomariba ward MCA seat in 2022 while speaking at Ikorora on Wednesday where he addressed a women's group insisted that Mariga's nomination was free and fair.
He said Kibra electorates will make their decision on who to represent them in Parliament until 2022.
"I'm not opposed to Mariga's nomination. Those politicians opposed to Mariga's nomination should wait for 2022 because this is just a by-election," said the Kisii County Jubilee Party youth Secretary-General.
According to the youthful lawmaker, Deputy President William Ruto should not be dragged into Mariga's nomination because it is not DP Ruto who issues nomination tickets.
He said Mariga met the threshold, therefore, he should be allowed to campaign in peace since the electorate will have a final say.
"Let Mariga try his luck so that he can represent the people of Kibra in parliament. He is not an enemy to the youths as is being claimed that he has been supporting betting. His nomination was correct in my view," he added.
