Two students have been rescued after trying to commit suicide.
The two, who were taken to Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet were found attempting to take their lives in separate incidents.
In the first incident, a 13-year-old student at Chebulu Primary School attempted suicide by poisoning herself.
When fellow students noticed she had not come to class, they went out looking for her and found her lying unconscious at her home.
The incident was confirmed by Bomet Police Commander Musa Imamai who revealed that the student had consumed pesticide.
”She had consumed acaricides, a pesticide used to kill termites and ticks,” said Mr Imamai as quoted by Citizen Digital.
In the second incident, a 15-year-old boy was found trying to hang himself at a dormitory in Itembe Secondary School.
The Form Two boy was rescued by fellows students who found him hanging with a towel around his neck.
The students alerted their teachers who quickly rushed him to hospital for medical attention.
The county police chief noted that investigations have been launched into what could have led the two students to try to take their own lives.
Cases of suicide have been on the rise in the country. A student at Kabiangek Primary School in Konoin Constituency recently committed suicide after being shamed over her menses.
