A group of youths under the umbrella Youth Nation Uasin Gishu Chapter wants the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Task Force Committee to provide copies of the BBI report to youth across the county
According to the group's secretary-general Samkiz Mugo, this will enable the youths to read, comprehend and add value to the report.
“We the youths form 70 per cent of the population in Kenya, we need to be involved fully in the BBI process, civic education and awareness to achieve the long term goals and objectives. We want our voice to be heard,” said Mugo
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Tuesday, Samkiz who spoke on behalf of the youths wondered how the politician were moving around the country popularizing the BBI report yet Kenyans have not accessed the document.
“We want the politicians when they walk around the country to come with the copies we read for ourselves and not them to read for us since they have their self-interests and not for common mwananchi,” Samkiz noted.
He, however, said as youth issues such as hefty fines and punishment are imposed to the perpetrators of ethnic antagonism, the preferential opportunities under access to government procurement tenders should be raised from 30 to 40 per cent.
Under devolution, they proposed that 30 per cent of youth appointments in the Counties and National Government be for the youths.
