Deputy President William Ruto has put on notice parents denying their children a right to education.
He warned that stern action will be taken against such parents since it's the right of every child to access quality education as enshrined in the constitution.
"I am ordering the County Commissioner, Chief and their assistants to ensure that parents comply with 100 per cent transition of pupils from primary to secondary school," said the deputy president.
Ruto who spoke in Cheranga’ny Constituency on Saturday, instructed the County commissioners, chiefs and their assistants to move around looking for parents who have neglected school-going children.
He says the government aims to ensure every pupil who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education(KCPE) joins form one.
“It should be established on what grounds has the child not been enrolled for secondary education. The government has given the opportunity of free secondary education,” added Ruto.
The deputy president called on the school administrations to admit students despite insufficient infrastructure, noting that the government will allocate more funds for the same.
Ruto further said that no principal should send students home due to lack of school fees but instead, they should admit them to form one, thereafter look for fees.
He noted that any principal who will send students home due to lack of school fees will face the full force of the law.
