Reverend Welby was accompanied by the head of the Anglican Church in Kenya Reverend Jackson Ole Sapit.

The meeting was revealed by the DP who tweeted about it on Tuesday evening.

''Held talks with the Most Reverend Welby@JustinWelby, Archbishop of Canterbury, England accompanied by @ArchbishopSapit, Kenyan Anglican Bishop when they paid a courtesy call at Harambee Annex, Nairobi County, '' the country's second in command wrote.

In his tweets on the meeting at the Deputy President's official office at Harambee Annex, Ruto said that a litany of social issues were discussed.

Issues that made it to the agenda of the discussion included unemployment and exclusion among other things.

The high profile meeting came on the heels of another one the head of the Archbishop of Canterbury held with veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on the same day.

In the meeting with Mr Odinga in which Ole Sapit was also present, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) cropped up according to the former Prime Minister, who tweeted about the courtesy call from the Anglican Church leaders.

Welby's visit to the country comes at a time when there is an ongoing debate on the direction that Kenya should take; whether it changes its governance system.
