President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed claims that he intends to endorse Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga in 2022.
Speaking at the Sagana State Lodge on Friday, Uhuru said that he has not promised to support Raila in the upcoming 2022 polls as rumoured.
He noted that he is only committed to delivering on his Big Four Agenda.
The Head of State also said that the union between him and Raila is geared towards promoting peace in the country.
"And even when I talk to this other man (Raila), I never tell him that we are talking so that he can get a big position. I tell him that we are talking because of the peace of this country and the future of our children," Uhuru said, as quoted by The Star.
The president made the remarks when he held a meeting with leaders from the Mt Kenya region. He asked the leaders to support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) ahead of the release of its report.
Uhuru told the politicians from the region that he needs peace of mind to complete his second and final term in power.
He also noted that the leaders who have been criticizing him for working with Raila are misguided, arguing that the handshake has changed many things in this nation.
President Uhuru also pledged to initiate more projects before the end of his tenure in office.
The handshake between Uhuru and Raila has caused cracks in Jubilee. Jubilee politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto have argued that the handshake is meant to block the DP from rising to power in 2022.
