Officials from the Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company have cut off sewer connections to the Naivasha GK Prison, owing to an outstanding debt amounting to millions.
Consequently, the action which emanates after a tussle involving Sh6 million unpaid fees to the company has placed over 3000 inmates in danger of contracting diseases.
The company Managing Director said that he personally led his officers in cutting the connection, after futile attempts to have the prison administration pay the outstanding debt.
Mr Nahashon Wahome said that the prison is just one of the leading institutions which have made it hard for the company to run its operations by withholding millions in debts.
"We have been very patient and even tried to engage the management at the headquarters which has failed to act,” he is quoted by the Kenya News Agency.
However, the exercise of cutting the connection took a dramatic turn when Mr Wahome was almost arrested by prison warders for allegedly trespassing into the facility's premises.
The media outlet has since established that the situation is now very bad in the prison, given that Mr Wahome and team also cut off the water connection to the prison.
Attempts to deliver water to the inmates using tankers have not been effective since the water is not enough. The company has vowed to go for other institutions also owing it money.
