In the BBI report, the Prime Minister will be chosen by the President from the majority party and can be dismissed at the volition of the head of state.

But in a statement on Thursday, Senators led by James Orengo called for the strengthening of the post, arguing that Kenya should embrace the hybrid system.

“The Senate suggests that the Prime Minister position be more empowered as it is weak as presented in the BBI recommendations,” reads the statement quoted by Nation.

BBI team will be going around the country for the second time before condensing the proposals to a bill before being subjected to a referendum.

Also, President Uhuru Kenyatta has already picked 30 experts who will interrogate the document before it is presented in the next stage.

On reforming the Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the legislators want political parties included as key stakeholders in constituting members of the commission.

“The Senate calls for a comprehensive rearrangement of the IEBC, addressing the conflict between the commission and its secretariat, by making the chairman the CEO to address effectiveness of the electoral body in discharging its mandate," noted the legislators in the statement.
