Alleged police gunfire involving two youths has had its investigations launched by the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA).
According to IPOA chair Ms Anne Makori, a Rapid Response Team will be tasked with probing two separate occasions which saw two young men gunned down in Majengo and Mwiki between January 15 and 16 this year.
In one of the incidences, Stephen Machurusi, 17 was killed during demonstrations, while another man got injured.
Protestors were decrying the poor state of Mwiki-Kasarani Road when the tragedy occurred.
"Investigations into the fatal shooting though ongoing seek to establish, circumstances that led to the shootings and if police were justified to use that level of force," said Ms Makori, according to a statement, quoted by Daily Nation.
"On conclusions of investigations, Ipoa will make appropriate recommendations to the relevant institution(s)," it added.
The IPOA boss also revealed continued monitoring over how police conducted themselves while handling demonstrators, affirming their commitment to ensuring independent, impartial as well as fair investigations.
