An 80-year-old woman on Monday committed suicide in Katulye village, Matungulu sub county of Machakos county.
Her dead body was found dangling from a tree in a thicket near her home.
The incident was confirmed by Matungulu Assistant Country Commissioner (ACC) Gerald Omoke who said that the reason why the granny took her life is still a mystery to the family and friends.
"I got a report from the area chief this morning that one woman aged around 80 years had hanged herself at Katulye area. We have not established why she chose to kill herself since she didn't argue with anyone or leave a suicide note," said Omoke.
He urged residents to avoid taking their lives when facing hardship in life and advised them to exhaust all help they can get before deciding to give up on life.
"Talk to your family, friends, religious leaders and even come to us as the administration. Don't decide to kill yourself yet your problem might have a solution," he said.
The body of the woman was moved to Kangundo Level Four Hospital mortuary for preservation as investigations into the incident commenced.
