According to the residents, the garbage was uncollected for a period of three weeks.

On Monday the residents raised alarm over the toxic garbage terming it as exposure to health hazards.

Speaking to Hivisasa at his office on Wednesday, the director Kisii Municipal, Mengo Ochwang thanked the Hivisasa community for highlighting the situation revealing that they collect over 70 tonnes of garbage daily.

"We collect more than 70 tonnes of garbage daily from this town and we are able to transport it to the dumping site where it is being managed," Said Mengo.

Mengo also noted that residents are mismanaging bin meant for garbage collection in the area.

"But I want to request that our stakeholders to sometimes utilize these cubes well that we have already designated in various areas in this Municipality. They dont manage them well, they put materials that are not required in those containers like glass, mattresses, old shoes," he said.

"Once you bring your garbage to make sure you don't spill it over. We want them to be assembled together for my officers to easily manage in terms of transporting the garbage," Requested Mengo.

Mengo promised that the county is putting in place the necessary measures to prevent a similar situation in the future.
