Nyamira Member of County of Assembly (MCA) Fred Nyachae Omayio who is facing defilement charges will be detained for seven days pending bail ruling.
On Monday, Omayio appeared before Nyamira Law Courts where he denied defiling a 17-year-old girl, Citizen Digital reports.
The court was told that the MCA committed the act on the night of September 2nd and 3rd in a lodging (guest house) in Kisii town.
He is being charged according to Section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No.3 of 2006.
Through his lawyer Omoke Morara, Omayio asked the court to release him so that he can continue with his work of serving his people.
He also sought for his release so that he can to go receive treatment for blood pressure.
The prosecution, however, opposed the bail application on grounds that the MCA might reach out to the witnesses in the case and interfere with the investigations.
He will be detained until next week on Monday where his bail ruling will be determined.
