The police nabbed the man with fake cash amounting to Sh30, 000 at Oldanyati location where he had gone to deposit the cash.

Area chief Philip Kortom confirmed the incident revealing that it was the M-Pesa agent who raised alarm after realising that the man wanted to give out fake notes.

Traders near the M-Pesa shop rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect.

He was taken to Enosaen Police Station where he is being held before he is taken to court.

This is not the first incident where people have been nabbed with the fake new currency notes. Recently, two men were arrested in Eldoret town with over Sh150 million fake money.

A similar incident was reported in Embu where police arrested three suspects with Sh100,000 fake money. Three other suspects were nabbed last month after they were found in possession of Sh1 billion fake US currency notes in Embakasi area in Nairobi.

This comes after the government announced that it will be doing away with the old currency notes to curb fraud and money laundering in the country.
