Kenyans continue to express mixed reactions following the arrest and arraignment of Finance Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, his Principal Secretary Dr Patrick Kamau Thuge among others linked to the Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal.
The two senior officers in the Ministry of Finance have since denied any wrong doing after being arraigned in court on Tuesday morning alongside others.
Kisumu’s Kondele Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Joachim Oketch Swagga has expressed confidence that the arrest and subsequent charge of Rotich is a good pointer towards the war against corruption.
“The arrests have been long overdue and will be a warning to other top government officials that corruption does not pay,” Swagga told Members of the Press in Kisumu on Monday.
He claimed that all along, the war against corruption has been focused on junior government officers, but the arrest of Rotich and Thuge now means that the tides have changed over time.
He said proper action should be taken against those found liable, insisting that they should be prevailed upon to return all the money acquired through corruption.
Swagga is a first-time MCA having been elected on the ODM Party ticket in 2017. According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Kenyans may have lost Sh19 billion as a result of the Arror and Kimwarer dams’ scandal.
