Non Governmental Organizations have warned political leaders against using the Building Bridges Initiative to settle political scores.
In a statement released on Sunday, the council said that the report is meant to unite the country and not dividing it on the basis of political affiliations. Backing the implementation of the report, the council further stated that the interests of Kenyans had to come first.
“The interests of the country are bigger than the interest of some individuals,” reads part of their statement.
The council warned a section of leaders in the government against using the report to settle their scores in different areas after he was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
The council said that the report is ideal for the welfare of all Kenyans. The group noted that the report will heal broken wounds if it is adopted to the latter at the end of the day.
“The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is good for Kenya because it has the potential to unite the country as opposed to dividing it,” said the council.
The council also praised leaders from the Western region for convening the Bukhungu Stadium meeting in Kakamega where they popularized the report to the general public.
The council further appealed to the BBI task force to ensure that the taxpayers are aware of the contents of the report so that they can make informed decisions at the end of the day.
“Kenyans need to be sensitized on the contents of the report for them to understand and make informed decisions when it is taken for the referendum or otherwise,” concluded the statement.
