The bus which belongs to the Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) was intercepted in Voi, Taita Taveta county by police officers.

On searching the bus, bhang was found hidden in bags which were also carrying Lake Victoria sardine (omena), a popular fish in the lakeside Nyanza region.

230 rolls of bhang were found in the bags. The police have not yet estimated their street value.

CapitalFM was told that the bus had been hired to help transport mourners from Kilifi to Homa Bay County.

The Officer Commanding Police Division in Voi, Bernastein Shali confirmed the incidence adding that the driver, conductor and a passenger in the bus at the time of the interception were all arrested.

Investigations have started into this incidence with suspects being held in police custody.

This comes at a time the government has declared total war on drugs.

Bhang is still illegal in the country even after various calls from legislators to have it legalized.

The government has put in place various measures to help curb distribution of this drug from one area to another including intensifying police checks on the roads.

Tip-offs from residents have also helped nab bhang dealers across the country.
