Speaking on Monday during a morning show aired on Standard Media Group-owned Kenya Television Network, Mr Weda held the view the veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga had hijacked President Uhuru Kenyatta on BBI.

According to the lawyer, the focus on the BBI was an indication of misplaced priorities on the part of the government.

He contended that there are way important issues that need to be dealt with before talk about the initiative is entertained.

"So Honourable Raila has, seems to have hijacked the president on this and they are talking about... they want us to focus more on BBI, " Ambrose Weda argued. (8:13-8:24)

Mr Weda's words come just a day after the ODM supremo rattled off a list of reasons as to why the BBI is what Kenya needs.

Speaking at the Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa County during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, Mr Odinga rebuffed suggestions that the initiative was about creating positions for individuals.

It was a reiteration of president Uhuru's position in Ongata-Rongai where he said that the BBI was not about himself but the country.

The initiative was embarked upon after the dramatic handshake between Uhuru and Raila in 2018 after a period of sustained political tensions.
