In a video posted on Facebook by Daily Nation, Friday, the vocal governor expresses his dissatisfaction with how his county was affected by the crackdown.

Lonyang'apou said the Ministry of Education has to improve infrastructure in schools especially in Turkana and West Pokot counties as opposed to closing them down.

He alleged that the closure continues as ministry officials misappropriated development funds.

"An intelligent Ministry official came and shut down our school not minding the strategic importance of the institution. (Ministry official officer mwenye anafikiri amesoma sana na kichwa imejaa akaamuka na kalamu yake akasema closed. Unafungaje na hujui shale iko kwa mpaka wa West Pokot na Turkana?)," he asked.

The governor said some of the schools closed were vital in sustaining peace between West Pokot and Turkana counties and CS George Magoha erred in closing it.

"Peace agreement between West Pokot and Turkana counties was just stuck recently and we have been able to get children to attend school then you come and close our school. (Amani imekuja juzi sasa watoto wamepatikana halafu wewe... unakuja unafunga)," he noted.

Several schools have been shut down across the country since the crackdown that came after at least 7 students died in an incident in which Precious Talents Academy in Nairobi collapsed.
