This comes barely a week after Siaya Senator James Orengo said the country can hold a referendum by mid this year.

However, speaking on Saturday, Okango dismissed the remarks, noting that the exercise will take longer to realise, judging by the processes that must be followed before its ultimate arrival.

He cited among others, the collection of signatures, which he said must take a minimum of 9 months, and another 3 months before its taken to Parliament for approval.

"If they want a referendum it will take them 9 months to collect the signatures and three more before its tabled in Parliament. It cannot take below 6 months as is being claimed by Orengo. (Kama wanataka kura ya maoni itawachukua miezi tisa kuchukua sahihi kisha miezi tatu iende bungeni. Haiwezi chukua chini ya miezi 6 anavosema Orengo)," he said.

He made the remarks on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi on Saturday morning.

Citing Orengo's recent bad branding of IEBC, Okango wondered how ODM seeks to have the referendum held, yet it Is fighting the agency tasked with holding such.

"Who will hold the referendum yet they don't like Chebukati and his team? (Ni nani atafanyisha hii kura ya maamuzi kama hawataki Chebukati na timu yake?)," he posed.
