Majority of Nairobians who live from paycheck to paycheck usually don't budget for clothes because they assume they're expensive hence they are never at the top of their shopping list.

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

However, did you know you can still look fabulous and get an entire wardrobe of cheap but quality second-hand clothes, even if you live on a shoestring budget?

Wondering how? Read on to find out.

1. Gikomba

Located a few kilometres from the CBD, Gikomba market is the hub for cheap but quality second-hand clothes.

It's an all-under-one-roof kind of market as it has clothes for every age group; from newborn babies to old grandmas and grandpas.

The catch is, you can get tops without any damage for as low as Sh10. So if you have Sh1,000, you will literally be doing an extreme makeover to your wardrobe, and will not think of budgeting for clothes for some time. So just be ready to shop till you drop.

Tip: For the best bargains, go shopping between 5am-7am. However, don't visit the market when it's raining.

2. Ngara

Located near Khoja bus station, this is where you find the latest fashion trends especially if you're a thrift shopper.

However, some people say Ngara is quite pricey, but the trick is you will get value for your money if you have good bargaining power.

The only disadvantage is the traders are always on a chase with the county askaris aka 'kanjos', so you might end up running before buying whatever you wanted, or a trader might run before you take whatever you paid for.

3. Korogocho market

The market is located near the Korogocho slums. Here, you can get second-hand clothes from as low as Sh10.

When you go shopping here, just exercise patience as you go through the piles of clothes to find the right one.

4. Mutindwa

If you live along Jogoo road and can't go all the way to the CBD this is the place to shop.

You will get affordable clothing from as low as Sh20 to as high as Sh1, 000. Just put your bargaining face on and you'll be able to get great deals.

5. Toi

Located near Adam's arcade, Toi market has all sorts of trendy clothes.

Before people discovered Gikomba, this used to be the shoppers' paradise. However, it got a little bit pricey when rich people also started shopping there.

However, if you want to shop cheap, consider buying from the traders who don't have traders.
