Former Kenya international striker Dennis Oliech has announced his official retirement from football.
In an interview with Nation Sport on Sunday, Oliech said that he has decided to hang his boots after a successful career that span for close to a decade.
His retirement comes barely two weeks to the closure of the January transfer window.
The Veteran Striker was yet to be approached by any of the clubs within as well as outside the country for a contract before he decided to retire. The striker said that he had quit Gor Mahia with the hope of joining Bandari or Wazito but none of the sides has approached him for a contract so far.
"I have officially retired from playing football and will venture into business. I had stated when I left Gor Mahia that I would bounce back by joining Wazito or Bandari, but nothing is forthcoming and that is why I have not seen any need to continue. I have retired both international and at a club level," he said.
He also lamented that the standards of Kenyan football have been dwindling because of the lack of funds. He noted that the exit of betting firm SportPesa was a big blow to the sector.
The football legend urged the government to put in place more stringent measures to nurture young talents in the field.
He noted that most footballers in the country are languishing in abject poverty because of the lack of sponsorship.
