Plans are underway for construction of an ultra-modern Eye Hospital in Bahati sub-County of Nakuru County.
This is in a move to address the rising eye medical complications in the area.
Area MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri has revealed that through his Hands of Mercy Ngunjiri Foundation, he is in talks with Rotary Club of Nairobi Utumishi, and VOSH USA medics over the plan.
The legislator made the revelation at Githioro Assistant County Commissioner’s office in Lanet on Saturday during the closure of a one-week free eye medical exercise.
“Through my friends and partners we are in talks to have eye hospital established in this sub-county to help address the rising eye medical conditions,” said Ngunjiri.
The one week exercise was carried out by Rotary Club of Nairobi Utumishi, and VOSH USA in conjunction with Hands of Mercy Ngunjiri Foundation.
According to the MP, despite the government putting in place several mechanisms on healthcare matters, there is still more to be addressed in ensuring universal healthcare.
He called on leaders to think out of the box and work an extra mile in catering for the needs of their constituents rather than just relying on government-funded projects.
“The problem we have today in Kenya is actually the coordination of government and that is why we end up messed in BBI politics and if we continue like this, we will lose focus even on the Big 4 agenda,” said Ngunjiri.
Locals from all the 5 wards of Bahati Sub-county had the opportunity to undergo free check-ups on minor eye conditions, medication as well as receive eyeglasses to those in need.
Elderly Hannah Wambui was a beneficiary of the free eye clinic at Githioro area and says she was unable to see objects clearly but with the glasses availed to her, she is now able to see without any strain.
“I came here, I was screened and given the glasses. I am now able to see with no much strain” she said.
Similar sentiments were shared by another local George Mbugua who had a challenge when it comes to reading but with the services he has gotten from the free medical camp, he is now able to read.
