Rudisha who has been battling a string of injuries said he continues taking each stride with eyes firmly fixed on making it back on track in time for the Tokyo Olympics, set for between July 24 and August 09, 2020.

“I am expecting to return next season and I am preparing for that. My main target is the Olympics,” Rudisha was quoted by Capital Sport on Friday.

“For me, health comes first and all this time I have been monitoring and taking care of my injury. Now it is almost out of the way now planning on a comeback until the beginning of next season. I have not yet planned on any races but definitely when the season starts, I will get a few races to measure myself,” added the 2015 World 800m Champion.

The double Olympics Champion’s last international race was during the Golden Spike competition in Ostrava, Czech Republic in 2017 where he finished fourth. He featured in the 1000m race instead of his traditional 800m.

King David as he has come to be christened by a section of his supporters set a new World record when he ran for 1 minute, 42 seconds and 15 seconds to emerge the winner, during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016.
