Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i can easily win State House race if he gets support from ODM leader Raila Odinga, a top lawyer has said.
Mr Steve Mogaka on Sunday said Matiang'i's chances could be real if he reaches out to Mr Odinga and continues with his transformation agenda within goverment.
And this, he added, will present him as an alternative candidate to Kenyans who may be looking at one's track record in 2022 polls.
"He needs Raila for him to win. This is one of the most important thing he ought to do. Raila commands almost half of this country and he could be retiring," he said.
"With the support, you'll see a huge difference. He also has to remain focussed and perform well in his current docket," added Mogaka, a Wiper member.
While Matiang'i is yet to declare interest, a host of politicians from Gusii have been pushing for his candidature, arguing that he's fit to take over.
In August, Raila Odinga asked Gusii politicians to go slow on the subject, adding that when the right time comes, they will give a direction.
"Matiang'i is like my son. You don't need to tell me what he wants. Let him work first and when the time comes, I'll let you know what to do," he said.
Despite the increasing calls to run for Presidency, a section of leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties have been supporting DP William Ruto.
