Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has declared Deputy President William Ruto's presidency after the 2022 polls inevitable and unstoppable.
Washiali has been among Western Kenya leaders who have been selling Ruto's candidature in the region, with the DP hoping to win the region over by 2022.
However, the attempts have been facing stiff opposition from forces allied to Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi, the region's said political kingpin.
But Washiali now says that Ruto will be president with or without the support of Mudavadi and the members of his community.
He said that the DP has won the hearts ofmany Kenyans across the nation and cannot lose just because Mudavadi has not supported him.
"Kenyans will elect Ruto even if Mudavadi clings on Luhyas. He will be president even if Luhyas refuse to elect him (Hata waLuhya wakatae Ruto bado atakuwa rais. Wakenya watamchagua hata Mudavadi akikatalia waLuhya)," he said on Radio Maisha, Tuesday morning.
According to the National Assembly Majority Whip, Luhyas are very unlikely to reject Ruto for fear of once again landing in the opposition which they have been in for years now.
He stressed on the need for the community to enjoy the benefits that come with being part of the government by ensuring that they support the DP's bid.
"We want Luhyas to be included while Ruto will be making his plans on how to disperse benefits (Tunataka wakati Ruto anaamua vile wakenya wananufaika na waLuhya wawe kati yao)," he added.
This comes only days after Ruto, while on a tour of Mudavadi's Vihiga backyard, called upon the former Deputy Prime Minister to join his bandwagon.
